When talking about Telamco’s manufacturing capabilities we normally share information about membrane switches. They are a large majority of Telamco manufacturing, but we do have wide range of machines and skills available which provide the ability to complete some unique projects, like cutting and packaging weed barrier mats.
Why Weed Barrier Mats?
In 2016, Plantra® contacted Telamco after one of their other vendors recommended Telamco. Plantra® was looking for a manufacturer with the necessary equipment, range of capabilities and production flexibility to produce their Water-Saver™ Weed Mats. Telamco met their needs and a great relationship was created.

Plantra® provides the 4 Mil coated plastic materials in 4,000-foot-long rolls. Telamco’s process involves cutting this material into 40” x 40” squares with a 4-inch diameter 270-degree tab in the middle, precisely designed to snugly slide over a Plantra® Tree Tube. Once completed the mats are packaged in desired quantities, so they are ready for customers once they arrive at Plantra®.

What purpose do these mats serve? Landowners and conservation specialists use Water-Saver™ Weed Mats to prevent weeds from growing around trees, hold moisture in the ground to support growth, moderate soil temperature and can be used to reflect diffused light to help ripen fruit. The work is different from the standard membrane switch product that Telamco manufactures and adds variety to the manufacturing floor.
